“Happiness can be found, even in the darkest of times, if one only remembers to turn on the light.” – Albus Dumbledore
Makenzie Smith is a Mental Health & Relationship Therapist and a Registered Play Therapist. Makenzie has a passion and a gift for helping others through stress, anxiety, depression, and other life changing events. His goal is to provide you and/or your family with a safe space to share your concerns and to work collaboratively with you and/or your family on creating a measurable plan that will create positive outcomes.
Makenzie has CBT training from the Beck Institute and is on track to become a Beck Certified Cognitive Behavioral Therapist.
Through play therapy Makenzie is knowledgeable and has a wonderful ability to build rapport with children and adolescents. In a play therapy session you should expect your child to feel safe and in an environment where they can express their feelings and emotions through play. Makenzie will always keep the lines of communication open with you as the parent and will be ready to help so that you can take home what your child is learning.
Makenzie received his undergraduate degree in Psychology at Henderson State University in Arkadelphia, Arkansas and then went on to get his master’s degree in Counseling at Henderson. He then worked in Hot Springs as a therapist for 2 years working with children and families. In 2017, he and his wife moved to Northwest Arkansas where he continued to work in school based therapy. Makenzie has extensive training in Play Therapy which can be helpful in treating children. While adults are able to process their emotions through many types of talk therapy, children process through play. Play is a child’s natural language and Play Therapy can help a child work through emotional and behavioral issues.
Though Makenzie is a Northwest Arkansas transplant, this beautiful area has become his home over the past few years. In his free time Makenzie enjoys spending time with his lovely wife hiking with their dog Barney, mountain biking, watching sports and trying all the new and interesting restaurants around Northwest Arkansas. Makenzie also has a wealth of knowledge on “nerd culture” and loves anything related to comics, movies, video games and tv. Makenzie is excited to be apart of this team of highly skilled professionals.
We are honored and grateful to have him on our team. Call/Text (479) 282-4452 or email us at firstname.lastname@example.org to learn more and/or schedule an appointment with Makenzie.
