Mental Health & Relationship Therapist

“Watch your thoughts, they become words; watch your words, they become your actions; watch your actions, they become your habits; watch your habits, they become your character; watch your character, it becomes your destiny.” – Lao Tzu

Peter holds licensure as both a Licensed Associate Counselor and a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist.  He seeks to help clients foster both insight and awareness (insight into how beliefs shape emotional responses and how to change beliefs, as well as awareness of our own and others’ belief systems), and working collaboratively with clients to develop a “toolbox” to deal with distress. In working with couples, he focuses on skills that enhance communication and understanding, targeting evidence-based features of healthy relationships, and working through specific emotional roadblocks.

Peter graduated from John Brown University, completing Master’s of Science coursework and licensure exams for both Clinical Mental Health Counseling and Marriage and Family Therapy.  He also holds Master’s of Arts in Philosophy and Theology from Biola University.   He has completed all required training in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), and is planning to pursue certification in this as soon as he is eligible.  EMDR focuses primarily on addressing trauma, anxiety, and other “stuck” thoughts and feelings. Prior to joining this clinic, Peter has worked with a local community mental health agency providing therapy services to clients ranging in age from children through adults, families, and couples.

Peter has been married for 23 years and has 2 boys (ages 11 and 14).  He has taught undergraduate philosophy as an adjunct professor for 18 years.  When not spending time with family, working with clients, or teaching, Peter is an electronic music composer and is working to write a fantasy fiction novel.

We are honored and grateful to have him on our team. Call/text (479) 282-4452 or email info@fbcbt.org to learn more and/or schedule an appointment with Peter.
